At Western Kids Health our dedicated therapists are running a range of groups over the summer school holidays, from getting ready for kindy right through to teens, there is something for everyone.
Primary School
Reading, Writing & Social Skills
Is your child starting school in 2026?
Join us this January for our fun and supportive School Readiness Group, led by Millie Plester, Occupational Therapist. Libby Barrett-Lennard, Speech Pathologist, will also join in for an hour of each session to provide additional specialised support!
Held across 5 sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, this group helps your child build confidence, independence and excitement for their first years of school. Sessions are designed to mimic the day-in-the-life of a student, to help them prepare
for starting school.Program structure

Using the fun and well-regarded Story Champs ® Program this group will help to build the foundational oral academic and social language skills needed for success at school- storytelling, vocabulary, and comprehension. This group will be led by Tyler Mahon, Lead Speech Pathologist.
Designed for children aged 4.6 to 6-years entering Pre-Primary or Year 1 in 2026, this intensive group will support oral language skill development over three sessions, using engaging stories. Follow up home activities will also be provided after each session.

Our two-day early literacy group is designed to help build foundational pre-literacy
skills needed for the successful learning of reading and writing skills, and will be run by Kathryn Morrison, our Speech Pathologist.Designed for children aged 4.6 to 5 years entering Pre-Primary in 2026, this intensive group will support skills such as syllable, rhyme and initial sound awareness. Sessions will be fun and interactive and follow up with home activities to allow you to continue to support your child’s skills at home.
Please note: If your child is a new patient and/or requires a pre-group assessment, this will come at a separate cost.

Outdoor & movement Groups
Looking for a fun and supportive way to keep active and boost your little one’s gross motor skills these holidays?
Our Physiotherapy team has developed a two-week intensive group designed to support children who may find it tricky to navigate stairs, hold their balance, or keep up with their peers on the playground.We will focus on:

Join Georgia (Physio) and Sophie (OT) for a fun and supportive group designed to help your child build their bike-riding skills. With guidance from experienced therapists, your child will practice key riding skills in a safe and encouraging environment, perfect for building independence and confidence on wheels!
We will cover:
- Transitioning off training wheels
- Increasing endurance
- Developing balance
- Learning how to brake
- Building confidence
- Learning to pedal and steer

Running Group is an intensive group, designed to improve running technique.
Drills are directed by our physiotherapists and individualised to each child and their goals. This January holiday intensive will be led by our physio Tim Berry. Running group is about running well, NOT about running long distances!

High School
Is your child starting high school in 2026?
Preparing for high school can be an extremely daunting thing for both children and their parents. There can be lots of unknowns! This group will run over 5 sessions, on Mondays and Fridays in January.
We will cover:
- Greeting & introducing self to others
- Independence skills
- Joining group conversations
- Setting up a study space
- Reducing stress and anxiety around starting high school
- Making new friends
- Reading a timetable
- Organising/planning

The Teens Move physiotherapy program has been designed specifically for teenagers 12 years of age and over with chronic musculoskeletal conditions, designed by Rowan Pearce. This program runs for 6 sessions over 2 weeks in January. Rowan is a senior Physiotherapist and the Head of the Complex Care Clinic at Western Kids Health, and has a wide range of experience working in this area.
Suitable for children & teenagers with chronic conditions such as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome/ hypermobility spectrum disorder, juvenile arthritis, persistent pain and fatigue).Program structure
