School Aged Services Clinic

We aim to support the development and participation and improve the quality of life of children in kindergarten, primary school and high school.
How can we help?

Our Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech Pathologist and Dietitians working in the School Aged Services Clinic aim to build your child’s skills and capacity to ensure they can engage best with their family and friends, at school and in the community.

We can help with difficulties in the areas of:

Fine Motor:  fine motor skills such as pencil grasp, hand strength, cutting, drawing 

Gross Motor: running, jumping, hopping, catching, throwing, bike riding, climbing and playground confidence 

Handwriting:  including motor-based dysgraphia, visual perceptual difficulties 

Self-care:  dressing, shoelaces, following routines  

Social Skills:  making friends, conflict resolution, conversational skills, play skills 

Self-Regulation:sensory processing, attention and concentration, emotions 

Language:  speech clarity, speech sounds, lisps, stuttering, language delay 

Literacy: reading, spelling 

Diet:  allergies and intolerances, constipation, IBS, diarrhoea and other gastrointestinal issues, faltering growth and weight management, nutrient deficiencies  

Groups

This program will help

  • peer interaction: social skills, language skills, comprehension, separation from caregivers
  • play skills: turn taking, sharing, attention and concentration, memory
  • fine motor skills: pencil grip, scissor skills, colouring, handwriting
  • gross motor skills: jumping, balance, throwing and catching

This 14-16 hour intensive spread over 6 weeks is lead by our speech pathology & occupational therapy teams.

The Bike riding beginner group has no age limit or need for you child to be off training wheels. In this group we focus on: 

  • Learning to pedal 
  • Learning to steer 
  • Increasing endurance and strength 
  • Developing balance 
  • Learning how to brake 
  • Building confidence 
  • Transitioning off training wheels 

An 8 week Occupational Therapy / Speech Pathology led group program

This group can have a focus on girls or boys or mixed to tailor the child’s interests and make the group more personable. This small group will cover the skills needed to encourage friendships, build resilience and positively communicate and interact with others. Topics covered include conversational skills, body language and eye contact, turn taking and sharing, winning and losing, managing friendship conflict and much more.

An 8 week Occupational Therapy led group program.

This group is fantastic for children needing a little bit of extra support before working on handwriting. Before learning to write letters, we need to develop our prewriting patterns, pencil grip, hand strength and mobility. In this group we focus on the developmental steppingstone for handwriting.  

An 8 week Occupational Therapy led group program.

This group is focused on bother letter and number formations using the Peggy Lego approach to handwriting. This means putting a rhyme with the letters to help with directionality and letter/number flipping. We also including pencil grip development and fine motor skill development.  

An 8 week Occupational Therapy led group program.

The level up from Handwriting 1.0 is this group. Here we continue to work on pencil grip development and fine motor skill development. The majority of the group is focused on handwriting legibility including letter sizing, letters on the line, letter and word spacing and gramma.  

This 8-week program, specifically designed to improve motor skills such as; navigating stairs, holding their balance, or keeping up with their peers in the playground.

Combined physio and dietetics approach to creating positive habits across the lifespan. Psychology and Mental Health OT also support children attending this group to address social skills, provide healthy coping skills, resilience strategies and self-confidence skills.

– Physio sessions are around providing space to build confidence in skills for the playground and community/school environment.

– Dietetics focus on creating a positive relationship with food and building knowledge around healthy eating patterns

If your child has NDIS funding you can apply for our evidence based intensive programs below via our NDIS enquiry link.

All NDIS intensives will be preceded by an intake appointment with one or more of our team.

Individual Intensives

An 8 week program for children and adolescents needing support with fine motor skills

Our Occupational Therapists assesses fine motor skill development and provides targeted intervention to support hand and finger strengthening, dexterity and grasp, pencil control and supporting with drawing, colouring, cutting and pre-writing skills.  

An 8 week program for children and adolescents needing support to understand, express and communicate their emotions. The program will explore different physical, sensory and cognitive strategies and at the end of the program your child will have a toolkit of practical skills and tools to help manage their emotions. 

Led by Occupational Therapy

An 8 week program for children and adolescents needing support with learning developmentally appropriate social and play skills to support healthy friendships and relationships. Topics covered include conversational skills, body language and eye contact, turn taking and sharing, winning and losing, managing friendship conflict and much more. 

Led by Occupational Therapy & Speech Pathology

A 6-8 week program for children and adolescents needing support with running, jumping, skipping, hopping, throwing, catching and playground confidence

Led by Physiotherapy

An 8 week program for children and adolescents needing support with handwriting and provides targeted intervention to support the child’s identified difficulties. This may include working on letter formations, sizing of letters, reversals, line placement and spatial awareness, pencil pressure, spacing, punctuation and handwriting speed.  

Led by Occupational Therapy

An 8 week yoga program for children and adolescents utilising self-regulation principles, this program will explore different yoga positions, breathing techniques and mindfulness activities to support the child’s ability to self-regulate.

Group Intensives

This program will help

A small group program designed for children aged 8 – 11 years with an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis. The group is co-run by occupational therapists and speech pathologists. The aim of the group is to provide opportunities for social interactions, play and communication with other group members in a safe, supportive and controlled environment. The group will cover topics including using appropriate body language and eye contact, maintaining personal space, turn taking and sharing, coping with winning and losing, asking and answering questions, learning how to join in a game and much more

This group program  is led by our occupational therapists and speech pathologists.
